WHAT IS LEADERSHIP MAGNOLIA-COLUMBIA COUNTY?
Founded in 1995, Leadership Magnolia-Columbia County is designed to provide a series of educational and participatory experiences for some twenty-five individuals each year. Participants are chosen for a ten-month leadership training program consisting of seven full-day Sessions, once a month on the third Thursday, starting in October and running through May, and one two day retreat in September.
Sessions combine forums, tours, dialogue and interaction between speakers and participants. Subjects include government, quality of life, education, health care, economy, human services, industry, technology, and community heritage.

WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF LEADERSHIP MAGNOLIA-COLUMBIA COUNTY?
Leadership Magnolia-Columbia County offers new learning opportunities, increases awareness of local resources, creates a network for personal and professional benefit, and challenges potential leaders to explore greater community involvement and decision-making opportunities. The program seeks to identify and nurture existing and potential leaders and acquaint future leaders with community needs, problems, and opportunities.

ARE YOU A LEADER?
Leadership Magnolia-Columbia County requires a serious commitment. Participants should be prepared to devote one day per month (for eight months) to the program, beginning in September and continuing through May. Participants should be prepared to attend and complete the mandatory over-night retreat. The retreat is a vital part of the program and is where multiple decisions will be made about the class project and class officers.
Outside study of program topic may be required. The success of this program will depend on full participation by the individual. Those who are unable to make this commitment should not apply. Leadership Magnolia tuition is $450.00 per individual. Tuition must be paid in full by August 16, 2024. Scholarships may be available for those who qualify for the program. An explanation stating financial need should be included with the application.

Application Guidelines:
Each year, the Leadership Magnolia class selects a project aimed at improving the community. The class is responsible for raising awareness and securing funding for the chosen project. Projects should focus on enhancing local infrastructure, supporting nonprofit efforts, and improving public spaces to create a meaningful impact. Leadership Magnolia participants are required to dedicate at least one workday to actively contribute to the organization or project.

Eligible applicants include nonprofits, the Chamber of Commerce, government entities, local schools, universities, and other organizations. For-profit businesses are not eligible to apply. Proposed projects must be completed before the end of the Leadership Magnolia year in May. Please note that organizations or project locations that have previously been selected must wait a minimum of 5 years before submitting a new proposal. This policy ensures a diverse range of organizations and locations receive support.
Examples of Valid Projects:

Assisting a nonprofit with facility improvements or new initiatives.

Developing or enhancing new public community spaces.

Implementing city or county beautification projects, such as mural painting, community gardens, signage, or other efforts.

Supporting schools with initiatives like playground equipment or other facility improvements.
